About Us

Sole proprietor Matt Getsinger founded Georgia Select Fish Farm in 2001 after graduating from Auburn University School of Fisheries with a Master of Aquatic Sciences.

Becoming a fish farmer is not something Matt originally envisioned in his early years, but he knew at heart that he was destined to work in an outdoor environment. The love of the outdoors is what led Matt to Montana State University for his undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Biology with a concentration in Wildlife Management. Intrigued by going into business for himself, Matt researched agricultural costs of production and quickly realized that the food production ratio of protein per acre associated with fish production in ponds surpasses the amount of protein per acre associated with standard livestock production. On average, a single 2,000-pound Angus steer requires one dedicated acre for grazing, while farm-raised catfish schools can develop to over 56,000 pounds of fish weight in an eight-acre manufactured pond. Including a percentage offset of waste pounds per animal such as bones, fish production allows thirteen times the amount of protein per acre over cows. This farming equation insight was shaped just as US farming interest in aquaculture was gaining steam at the time Matt finished his undergraduate study, which led to his decision to specialize in fish production for a career path.

For the last 25 years, Georgia Select Fish Farm has built an expert knowledge basis for hauling fish live, which requires technical competency in fish temperature regulation, oxygenation, and allocated time in tanks to increase survivability of the product.

The heart of Georgia Select’s mission is their dedication to the American farmer, retailer, and consumer who value the safety of their food production and won’t settle for inferior foreign aquaculture products.

We remain proudly American-owned and are honored to have the opportunity to earn your business!
